Lovely view from the deck here. Got the lobster roll and the boothbay summer ale... Awesome combo! Fiancée got the chicken fingers and those were great and in the in-laws got steak tips which were amazing. Staff was very friendly and they had an awesome menu would totally recommend!

Serviceable food and decent service are secondary to the view from the deck in busy Boothbay Harbor. We had a decent haddock sandwich with onion rings. Also the appetizer special of melted cheese, spinach, and a few pieces of lobster, served with tortilla chips. That was okay, a bit salty. Drinks included a Maine Mule (Maine blueberry vodka with ginger beer) that was good, not great. Request a seat outside, have a drink, have another one, and just relax, it's an okay spot in a beautiful town.

Pretty good. Service slow but seafood platter pretty good. Shrimp, scallops and clams were yummy, the fish in the other hand was just ok. Breading was nice and light Atmosphere was fabulous outside which helped give this 4 stars full moon helped and we had a beautiful ocean view. There was music inside that we could hear but was not too loud

I came here for the second time. I'd been here on our previous trip to Maine. The dinner was wonderful this year! I enjoyed it so much! We had fried calamari appetizer and it came with three great dipping sauce. My clam chowder was some of the best I've had in Maine. I LOVED my teriyaki sesame crusted tuna it was delicious! My friend had the salmon with black beans and rice and I took a bite, that too was phenomenal. TIP: ORDER IT RARE FOR THE BEST TASTE. Our first year we didn't know and we ordered it medium-well and it did not have much flavor. The service was great and we enjoyed our night :)

Went back in 2015, different menu. Food wasn't as good as in previous years and fewer options. Calamari swimming in oil, chicken was grilled dry, generally average fare. There are better lobster rolls in town. Pro: I still like the view and outdoor seating. They have Boothbay Brewing beer on tap (only one though). Con: It's kind of dirty now, food is below average for the price.

My daughter and I were looking to grab a quick lunch on Memorial Day after visiting the Maine State Aquarium. We previewed the menu after the restaurant's rep, who was standing out in the courtyard, got our attention prior to us making our way past her & toward the restaurant we had intended to try. The starters & sandwiches looked good, as did the prices, so we chose McSeagull's (what an awful name, BTW). Their tap list was OK; they included an icon that indicated whether the beer was Maine-made. I chose a nice Sebago Runabout red ale, with which I am very familiar & knew would pair well with the buttery mussels I'd ordered as my main. My daughter ordered a pulled pork sandwich. It wasn't terribly busy, but the drinks took a little longer than I think they should have. Then came the mussels, which looked & smelled great. My daughter's sandwich took a few extra minutes, so as a gentleman, I waited. Though I did not specify, I would have thought the mains would appear at the same time; whether mine was technically a starter or not. The mussels were excellent. The menu specified that they came with crusty bread with which to sop up the broth; however, what they ended up being we're two smallish, hard, crouton-like things that would be more at home on a Caesar salad. A shame, too; as the broth was very good & only ended up staying in the bowl. My daughter's pulled pork was food service quality at best; pretty mushy and not seemingly house-made. Granted, pulled pork is likely not this marina-side restaurant's forte. After completing our meals, we waited 10-15 minutes to be revisited by the waiter; we had to get his attention and ask for the check. As I'd said, it wasn't busy at all (a couple hours after lunch rush & most of his tables had left), so this was kind of inappropriate. I will say he was quite friendly, though, and when I complimented the mussels he pointed out that their mussel guy was seated right at the bar and the mussels had come in that morning. With better service and maybe some more attention to the food, my rating would have been better. The live acoustic music was a nice touch, as well. Still, I imagine we will give them a second chance, as every restaurant is entitled to that.

Came here for Harborfest but nobody seemed to know what was going on, so we ended up sitting at the bar for some drinks. Typical bar scene, but seemed to be kid-friendly and we got some Nachos which weren't great. No rush to come back.

We stopped by here for a small lunch. We got seated on their deck, which is a pretty nice view (the water). We ordered the chicken quesadilla, cup of clam chowder and mild buffalo tenders. The cup of clam chowder was so good, I decided to order one more! Must try! Very tasty! The chicken quesadilla was pretty delicious! Filled with cheese, chicken, tomatoes, corn and black beans. They served sour cream, salsa and rice on the side. The buffalo tenders are alright, they were a bit dry. We ordered from the appetizers but we would definitely come back to try their entrees! The service was pretty decent, my waiter could've been a little more lively!

Good food, good drinks and good music. Outdoor deck on the Bay. Local beers and lobster, lobster, lobster. Also other food for those who get tired of lobster but hey this is Maine what are you going to do get a hamburger?

Sit up at bar on deck and enjoy the calamari, pizza or salad with scallops. All good but ask for itemized check. Two days in a row overcharged.

Excellent dinner all around. Great beer, clam chowder was the best I have had. Lobster and clams were delicious! And the blueberry pie was wonderful. And the service was very attentive. Don't miss this place!

This place haphazardly throws together food with flavor as shallow as a puddle. We went to this restaurants three times...nothing we ate was memorable. This place to me is like a mirage it looks good from a distance but once you arrive you find nothing! This restaurant is one of only a hand full of pub style restaurants in the area. Its no revelation that you have to take what this restaurant lacks because theres a lot of desert to travel till you find something better. I'd rather be a camel with no water chewing on dirt then walk into this restaurant again for the fourth time.

The service here is HORRIBLE. We waited almost half an hour for our waitress to come to our table. Less than half the tables were full and there were several employees moving dishes around. The bartender finally came and took our order...he was very nice and the only reason they got any stars. It's too bad because they have an excellent draft selection and good food.

This was the worst meal my family has ever been served. My medium well steak was so over cooked that it was hard, difficult to even cut and tasted like liver. I actually couldn't swallow it. I ordered tater tots and they served me red roasted potatoes. The broccoli was incredibly dry. My daughter's chicken and broccoli were equally inedible. We had to send back my other daughter's pasta because it had cheese in it and she had ordered it without. The onion rings were not crispy at all. Our bill was over $100 and we left hungry.

Lovely and child friendly! The staff here was very accommodating to the two children we brought. They spill things (as kids sometimes do), and they were very understanding. Food came in a very reasonable time frame, great selection of kids options (crayons for the kids menu!), and plenty of adult selections for the adults. Good drinks, and a place where someone who wants great seafood and good vegetarian food can co-exist.

Don't listen to the negative reviewers - this place is awesome! McSeagull's is a fresh-from-the-water sort of seafood joint, but not an especially fancy one. A lot of the seafood is fried, and the food is generally served with fries and slaw - meaning this is definitely more of a casual place than formal dining. Of course, for what it's worth, this joint does casual well, and it's a breath of fresh air for the area. We dined in the upstairs and enjoyed it quite a bit, though we honestly thought we heard a goat or something. Must have been a fluke. The outside deck looked particularly nice, and I imagine it'd be quite nice when the weather is good. The food is quite good for what it is, and I have no complaints. I had the flame grilled Catch of the Day, which was awesome. The service was also good. I know there are a lot of naysayers on here, but I can only imagine those were off days for McSeagull's - my experience was pleasant.

Stopped in today to have a few beers at the bar outside but the service was really slow and not very friendly at times. Haven't tried their food yet but would like to. Hopefully next time we'll have a better experience.

This is where you go to get a blend of tourist and local. Right in the heart of downtown BBH on Pier 1, their location really can't get much better. Just as you walk in, there's the main bar to your left with plenty of seating, along with a loung area with tables as well and two giant flat screens on the wall. To the right is their main dining area that extends upstairs along with outside on the main deck, which also has a large bar and sits above the harbor. The deck is covered so rain or shine, it's always a pleasant dining experience. Most of the wait staff is there year round and has been there for years -- so they know the menu in and out, along with any touristy questions about the area + surrounding destination points. Being local and friendly with the staff, I think my perspective on the place a bit biased, but it's definitely one of the best, local, watering holes (fantastic pours), (My number 1 is Pier 1 Pub, right across the pier). We usually head to McSeagulls after the sunday night reggae cruise around the harbor for a solid dish of loaded nachos that will feed about 4 people. They have wonderful, live bands that play from thursday nights thru the weekend. The menu isn't inexpensive, but no more expensive than a regular restaurant trying to make a living on a short summer season in a small town. I'd aim for one entree + two drinks, around 25 dollars total. Guaranteed to pick up some local lingo & gossip if you stop in :)

Updating previous review. Long time visitors to BBH, happy to see improvements at this establishment. Though still catering to tourist appetite, and more bar patrons than diners, both food quality and service were much improved. Not my favorite place, but dining on 4th of July with the family, expectations were low - McSeagulls delivered in every way. Will definitely be back. Updates to deck, now covered with its own outside bar, earn the place ambience points. Well done.

My boyfriend and I were really excited to go to McSeagulls to get clams while we were visiting Boothbay. When we walked in though, it was absolutely dead inside. We didn't think much of that because the weather was rainy and dark, so perhaps people don't want to walk around the touristy downtown. We decided to eat outside because they had a covered deck. The deck was huge and it looked like an awesome place! We were sat by the edge and waited ten minutes before our server, Martha M, came over to give us waters and said "I'll be right with you," yet did not give any eye contact. Another ten minutes passed and she finally came over to take our order. She then gave us our menus and obviously we had to look it through. Eight minutes later, she came by and we ordered exactly what we were hoping to find: steamed clams and fried clams. Forty minutes later, we noticed that not only had we not received ANY of our food yet, but also a table had been sat and had already completed their meals. Eventually Martha comes by saying "I don't know what they're doing with your food. I'll go check". Lovely. Just lovely. We are being told by our server that she 'doesn't know what they're doing with our food.' Ten minutes later, she comes by and says that she was waiting for our bread and that is what is taking so long. When she finally brings us our food, the "LARGE serving of fried clams" that was going to cost us $24 only consisted of TEN clams. She also set down our steamers and said "oh. Whoops. They spilled your butter into the steamers" as she sets down the entree and spilled the butter into the wine. So me and my boyfriend looked at her and said "this is the 'large' fried clams?" And Martha said "yeah. That's what I asked them too." And started trash talking the place she works at. Frankly, we then said "we are paying $24 for THIS?" (Nicer of course. My boyfriend has worked in the restaurant industry for almost ten years. I'm in the service industry. We appreciate great service.) Well...steamers and fried clams takes about five minutes to prepare, yet it took almost an hour to get them. After being very obvious that we were upset, instead of doing the proper thing of offering to go and get another order of fried clams, Martha said "uh. Well. Yeah. That's not a lot of clams. What? Like ten there? I um...will cut the price down to the small size." What Martha should have done in that situation would be to have immediately gone and got another order of clams. We are thinking that she in fact ordered the wrong size but didn't want to get us the big size. Realistically, there is no excuse to get such a small serving for $24 and then be brought out a small serving and not offered more when visibly upset. Meanwhile...the server hardly spoke to us. What I wrote is exactly what was said and that minimal. But while all of this is going on, EIGHT servers and busboys are hanging out next to our table gossiping and not working while customers were visibly upset with the poor service. One guy even THREW A PIECE OF GARBAGE TWO FEET AWAY FROM OUR TABLE. I was so disgusted. It took us EVERYTHING we could to not just get up and walk out.

Get the lobster roll hot with butter! Nicely located on the water and one of the only if not the only place to get lobster before the warmer weather hits.

Very disappointing. Last year was completely different. This year food wasn't nearly as good and the service was terrible. Waiter had a attitude. Lobster stew was sour. Seemed like it was sitting out for hours. It seems as if they went through a management change. They don't care anymore. I would not recommend to anyone and I won't be back.

Well, we're now locals here, and had gone to McSeagulls many times before that over the years. Have always found the food to be first rate. Their chowder never fails, and neither do their specials, and actually neither do their regular menu items. Occasionally have found service to be on the slow and indifferent side, but during the tourist rush what else can really be expected? Anyway we had family in this week and encountered more great food, but poor service. But their manager Allissa (not sure of spelling) came to our table and was simply an example of pure professionalism and grace in dealing with the issue. So go here, and you will be happy.

A wondrous meal at this excellent stop in Boothbay Harbour. We were able to sit on the deck and right by the water, which was just a magical place to be on this night. Rebecca ordered the scallops and I ordered the lobster roll which was just an amazing piece of history with it's singular recipe and a magnificently toasted roll with just the right amount of butter. This was simply THE best lobster roll I have ever had, which is not too bad a recommend. They also served a wonderful beer to me, the Sea Dog, the best I am getting is 'Summer Ale' but that's not what I think it was. It had a peach base to it that was kind of remarkable for someone like me who prefers a harder bite, but it was fantastic and brewed of course very nearby. It was a momentous stop, and I have an image that proves it, LOL!

Terrible. Terrible. Food. In just three words that all i have to explain why this place sucks. First of all, the food is nasty. It tastes frozen, it takes too long and the meals pretty much cost more than the price of a lamborghini. Like seriously... I paid over a $100 just for fried cheese, 3 frozen margaritas and 2 salads. I tried complaining to the manager about the price but they wont stop hesitating that everything was priced correctly. It was very obvious too that i got ripped off. I used to live in maine for over 15 years before moving to california and i remember eating at this place so many times when i lived in the mid coast. This place has gone downhill. Really really bad. If you really want some good food in the harbor.. Just stick to seafood or asian food.. Otherwise... Not much is really great compared to food in portland..

bad service, attitudes, no apologies, kinda of ridiculous.. probably won't come here again, not sure why it's the highest rated out of all of these restaurants on the pier... very disappointed. go to the boat house save your time.

This restaurant was overall, horrible. Terrible service, waitress actually rolled her eyes at us when we asked what was good on the menu! This, after we waited 30 min @ our table w/not even a shout out, "be right w/you" Then the food was inedible. My daughter (who is nine) wasn't eating her pasta w/ butter and when I asked why, she said that it was hard and all stuck together... It was! Then she said but don't make a scene, I'll be embarrassed if I send it back. That's how bad it was. The tuna tartar was tasteless, burger yuk, n pasta w/scallops and shrimp did not work at all over tortellini?? We should have gone straight to the amazing homemade ice cream next door. Just skip mcseagulls.

Bears moose and salmon McSeagull's is a cool restaurant that has a really cool name. Located right on the water it has nice views of Boothbay harbor from the outside deck. The restaurant is a lot larger than it looks from the outside and has a huge bar area, some inside sitting and a large patio where you can sit outside and watch the water and boats. The interior is about what you expect from a place like this. Lots of cute nautical things and pleasantly tacky little signs with humorous expressions. One side room has a stuff bear and some moose. I asked the waitress where they came from but she didn't know. The food is pretty good and the menu large and varied. The usually Maine seafood stuff with lots of different types of lobsters and some other things for people that don't like seafood. The server was excellent and had a bouncy kind of energy that had her seemingly in two of three places at once. Pleasant and attention but not intrusive. The prices are pretty much what you should expect in a place like Boothbay Harbor. Unfortunately seafood is no long the bargain that it once was up here and you won't find any real inexpensive seafood unless you go down to the docks and get it right off the boats. McSeagull's is pleasant restaurant with good food, a huge menu and great views of the water. A nice place to spend some time and money while in Boothbay.

Great selection of draught and bottled beers; portion size was huge. Lovely waterfront location, nice wait staff. I ordered the fish and chips; fresh fish, lightly battered and crisp. We came late in the afternoon and service was a bit slow, but otherwise, a solid 4/5 stars.

Beer under 5$, but food tends to be on the pricey side. I had a lobster stew, which was excellent. Unlike other places which serve lobster stew, this one served lobster stew which was very flavorfull.

What happened to the "old" McSeagull's? We've been happily coming here for so many years with friends and neighbors. This evening we met out of state friends who have been here with us before. To start off the place wasn't crowded as usual and it was 6:30 PM. Just thought it might be the weather. Now we see it's because word has gotten out this place is not what it used to be. My husband's knife was stuck with dried food. OK that can happen and we didn't think anything of it and the nice waitress gave him a clean replacement. When our orders came (an asparagus side was $6.00 for FOUR asparagus) my filet was like shoe leather when I had asked for it medium rare and the rice I asked for wasn't there, just potatoes. My friend's strip steak was even worse than mine and her husband's beef tips were way too over cooked. We asked for bread and butter and were told we had to wait for ten minutes. After the wait the waitress explained they were out of bread. She was right and when we left we saw a young man with bags of rolls going inside. I have to say my dinner and my friend's strip steak dinner were taken off the bill. Her husband was hungry and ate his beef tips although he was disappointed because they were cooked way too long. So goodbye McSeagull's, we don't know if the place is under new management or what yet it is a horrible place to dine and two of us left hungry. Inexcusable! SHAME ON WHOEVER IS MANAGING THIS ONCE GREAT RESTAURANT.

explored Boothbay last Saturday and being that it's winter, eatery pickings were expectedly slim. serves up standard pub food that luckily was well seasoned, tasty and plenty. had fried seafood platter which came with second best crab cake had in recent memory. with salad, a lot of food for two easy. defo recommendable any time of the year, imo.

Went here for dinner recently- the menu is large with many different options, although the prices were a little higher than I expected. Good bar selection. Our food was fine, no complaints but nothing exciting. Our waitress seemed overwhelmed and it was hard to get her attention when we needed something. Views are nice.

Perfect place for our vacation dining! We felt right at home sitting out on the deck with locals and tourists. Note: I don't eat fish, and this place had so many other options that we could find such a happy place because it's not easy to find dining that is so broad! To start: Super recommend the chicken teriyaki pot stickers, marinated perfectly, came with a salad, order two if you are sharing with more than two people as it's only 3 small skewers. Grilled asparagus and goat cheese salad It tastes as good as it looks - which they do a beautiful plating of this dish. If your traveling with kids the personal pizzas are perfect accompanied by a large frosted glass root beer. I did not personally taste it, but overheard and watched a family really enjoy their choices. The burgers are great - can't go wrong there. Super recommend the Smoked Turkey & Apple Melt. It was kinda like a mini turkey apple calzone. Tasted great!

Just came back from Boothbay. After looking at a lot of menus outside restaurants we found McSeagulls, First place that had fish options that were not fried. We started with a soup that was mushroom and lobster. Very surprised at how much lobster it came with. Lots of big delicious chunks were very welcome. And at a great price of $12 for a BIG bowl. My daughter had the rare tuna with black beans. She said one of the best she had in a restaurant that didn't specialize in sushi. I had the seafood extravaganza but they made it scampi style per my request as I do not like Alfredo. Again several big pieces of lobster, several scallops and 2 extra large shrimp. Lots of fresh cut up vegetables including yellow and red peppers. And that was the 1/2 order. Don't know how big the full order is. Yes..you read right. Most of the entrees come in full and 1/2 orders. Which is perfect for me especially when traveling and leftovers are not an options. If I had any criticism I would have liked angel hair or similar pasta as it came with thick noodles and would have liked smaller. Sat on deck. Waitress and food so good we went back a second night. Daughter loved the soup so much she got as main course. I went w/ 1/2 order of small, tender and perfectly cooked fried clams. Excellent. Also had the steamers as an appetizer. They made the as we request-plain w/broth and a side of butter. No garlic herbs or anything else. The way a steamer should be IMHO. Unfortunately I cant remember the name our waitress. After we had her Friday night we were so excited to go back Saturday night and have her again. She made the meal!! Let us enjoy our drinks, appetizers and meals with no rushing. I can honestly say she made our meal

We asked a shop owner for his recommendation on the best place in town for clam chowder. Without hesitation, he said to go to McSeagull's. The chowder is "not chintzy," he said. We couldn't agree more. The soup was loaded with clams and tasted great. My wife likes a thinner base, but I loved the thick consistency. We also enjoyed the calamari appetizer (lightly breaded and tender) and the warm lobster roll (mmm mmm). The staff was friendly and attentive. And the views of the harbor were beautiful. Two thumbs up for this restaurant!

We had high hopes walking in for breakfast, but they started to fade when we waited almost 15 minutes for coffee. The service did not get better. Save your calories by skipping the supposedly world famous cinnamon rolls; they were dry and not very cinnamony. Other than that the food was okay, but not deserving of being a breakfast destination.

Not Happy. The staff are some the worst I have experienced. The food is very mediocre. The layout is poor. Maybe if I was doing shots it would have sufficed! We arrive when it was drizzling and got seat on the deck...with plastic flapping in the breeze near the garbage station. The menu is a little bit of everything...a warning sign. Most of the other reviewers here appear more interested in the cheap drinks. The prices are high. I had a question about the menu, so I asked a waiter walking by...my waiter came running over(after being impossible to flag) telling me not to talk to the other waiter and then gave me surly answers. Then he went missing again before our orders. HORRIBLE! My two daughters got fried appetizers....which were drenched by sauce and a salad on the same plate DRENCH in dressing...all pooling in the middle. I got the seafood pasta....which was fair at best. NEVER GOING THERE AGAIN! Went to kaliers the next night cheaper, better with a staff that was interested in you...not trying to hookup with the other staff.

Very crappy service. I would even say the worst I've ever had. Waitress kept trying to hurry us up so she could leave for the night and all our drinks where completely terrible. We sent them all back and then they charged us for the drinks we sent back. And even a beer our waitress spilt on her way to our table! WE DIDNT EVEN GET IT! The food was pretty good however but way over priced. I was very disappointed.

I visited McSeagulls for a late dinner during my visit this past August. The food was very good, and the portions are very generous. They also have the option of selecting a half portion on many of their plates. Both times that we went, (once to get drinks at the bar, and another time for dinner) there was entertainment. I didn't care too much for the bar, as I felt that most of the drinks were overpriced and not that special, however the food was great. I will definitely come here for dinner again.

McSeagulls is just super cool. It's best for their lobster specials or fried seafood with cold drinks on the deck. You get very big portions of fresh seafood at decent prices and the atmosphere is fun and casual. This is not 5 star find dining people. Good times with good food on an outdoor deck on the water.

Great, prompt service and excellent food. Didn't try the seafood, but the locals say the clam chowder is excellent. The pulled pork was delicious, spicy and fairly lean compared to many places. My companion had the Rachel sandwich, which was fresh and yummy. If you're in town during the fall, definitely try the Shipyard Pumpkin Ale. The view was nice and not too breezy with the plastic blocks from harsh wind.

Average, some prices too high for quality and quantity of food. For example lobster stuffed mushrooms were tasty but four button (and they do mean button) mushrooms for $12 was a ripoff. The tuna appetizer was excellent with wasabi mayo. The hot lobster roll was very good. Fried seafood platter had a large portion but the bleu cheese burger was overcooked. Service was good though food took a while to come out even though it wasn't very busy.

This place was terrible. I don't know if we caught them on an off day or what, but I can't really say anything good about them. My fiancée and I went in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon, and waited about 2 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us. No big deal, right? She said "I'll be right with you" and rushed off around a corner. Over the next 5 minutes, she passed us at the hostess station 5 more times, each time looking at us and saying "I'll be right with you". My fiancée and I actually counted because while annoyed, it was kind of funny. Once we were finally seated, it was more if the same. Our waitress, Nikki, was just terrible. First, she rolled her eyes when I asked what beers they had on tap, and then the rest of the time we were there, it felt like we just couldn't leave quick enough for her. It's not like we were troublesome... I ordered one of the first 4 beers she mentioned, neither of us had any other questions, no special accommodations, nothing. I had a burger, which I wouldn't call anything special. It was mediocre, but not terrible. My fiancée had a cup of clam chowder and the "half portion" fish & chips. She said her food was decent, but nothing special either. For what we paid and the service we received, we won't be returning.

Up the coast on a mini vacation in early April, where not a whole lot open in BBH. McSeagull's was referred to us by a local, and went there 2 nights running. Unfortunately, we did not vary much on the menu, as it was lobster for me both nights, and fried clams for my daughter both nights. The clams were out-of-this world, the real deal, which I have never had before at a restaurant. Talking the whole fresh clam Very lightly breaded and fried. Just outstanding. Lobster was good, fresh and cooked well. One of the 3 I had seemed overcooked, and it was noticeably smaller. They did mention they ran out while we were there the second night, and had to get fresh from the dock to fulfill my double order. Perhaps that 1st small lobster was the last runt left. Drinks were hardy and stiff. We would certainly not hesitate going there again, if we ever returned to BBH.

McSeagull's has had consistently good food every time I've been there. The clam chowder is delicious. The menu is extensive, but everything my family and I have ever had there has been great! We also love that the place is open year round, unlike many of the restaurants which are seasonal.

They have a nice grilled seafood platter here that you can add a grilled lobster tail and of course I added one. This was probably the most formal place I ate at while in Maine and this place is still super casual but they provided the best service. This restaurant also has a pretty extensive menu for those that might be getting burned out on lobster they have some good non-seafood options. They offered some unique items here that I didn't see anywhere else so I like their unique spins on things. Overall this is a fun place to have a good meal.

My husband and I ate there last night. We had the crab cakes and a chowder for an app. Crab cakes were really good but I found the chowder a bit watery. For our meal, my husband had surf and turf and loved it. Plenty of food (portion size) and he said really delicious. I had the scallop po'boy. Scallops were excellent and roll was soft and delicious. Overall good meal!

First time in booth bay and had the rudest Bartender at mcseagulls didn't even tell us Her name she har dark brown hair and rolled her eyes when said we wanted to split a lobster roll. We had lobster cake and hot lobster roll. Lobster cake was all filling and very small for 11 dollars.lopster roll was ok but not for 21 dollars. Go to kalers and get a better one for 15 dollars. Bartender threw the check at us and didn't even say thank you don't waiste your time here. So many better places to go.

My boyfriend and I came here on the off season. Stumbled upon Happy Hour, drinks were cheaper and we got house nachos which were excellent! We walked around for a bit and came back here for dinner. They had a very extensive menu and every way you could imagine to have lobster they had it. The prices were OK, little high on some stuff but I have to say everything we got was delicious so that wasn't disappointing at all. Our waitress was friendly, as was the bartender we has earlier. If we are back in town again, we will be coming back.

Was in the area and trying to find a decent place to eat. Out top choice was booked for a private event so we went here. I'm not a fan of lobster so I tried to order a chicken dish. They were out. Instead I opted for a salad (about 10 bucks) and a cup of clam chowder. Now, I'm from RI, I've had a lot of clam chowder. This was nothing special. Rather mediocre. Then there was the salad. It was tiny! Seriously, THE SMALLEST salad! More like a 3 dollar side salad than the 10 main salad I paid for. In the end the meal was entirely unsatisfying. I only give it a second star bc the two pple I went with had the lobsters-which you can pick how it's cooked-and said it was great. So, basically, don't go unless you want to eat lobster.

This restaurant was absolutely amazing - wonderful food and great service! Everything we ordered was delicious and reasonably priced. The views of the harbor while sitting outside we're phenomenal too. Can't recommend McSeagulls enough!!

Excellent lunch today at McSeagull's Restaurant. The Lobster Stew was creamy and flavorful. I had the open-faced rare tuna sandwich and it was delicious. I highly recommend the Pacesetter cocktail, especially if you like grapefruit juice. Jeffrey, our waiter did an excellent job serving us.

Great place to have a beverage at the bar and mingle with locals and tourists. This is a casual place but busy, hence the pleasant wait for seating at the bar. Marie, who was the hostess and, as it turned out, a wearer of many hats, was most kind and helpful. She surprised us in many kind ways, particularly, as I had mentioned that it was my wife's b'day and after seating us on the deck at the best table to view the harbor, she and the crew "Happy Birthday'ed" Linda, my wife, along with a complimentory, ice-cream cake and candle. Why wouldn't we return? Prices are very reasonable. Linda loved her seafood chowder and I enjoyed my breaded brie sticks with fruit dip.

Way too much on the menu, but the staff is friendly. I had the Reuben and while tasty, I had to eat with a fork and knife because the bread was soggy. Wifi is a plus, especially if you have AT&T since there's no service in town.

They have Caesars here (cdn drink) and Shane the bartender pours a very stiff drink, so very friendly here and great location, water front.. Plus wifi / internet very hard to find around these parts..

The menu at McSeagulls can be seen as either diverse or scattered. They serve a broad spectrum of food - from the expected seafood dishes to all kinds of burgers, sandwiches, and "ethnic" food. This is either good (something for everyone!) or bad (no clear focus/specialty - mediocrity overall). McSeagulls trots safely down the middle. They do a broad spectrum of food decently. Yes, your whole party will find something to suit their tastes. No, no one will be having food-orgasms. Our waitress was a touch frazzled. I'm not sure if this was her first summer at McSeagulls, but she was completely overwhelmed by the sheer number of people on the patio and made this very well known to her guests. Repeatedly. Honey, it's July in a tourist town. Stop. Breathe. Chillax. Come here to eat outside - despite our waitresses protestations, the patio is quite nice. Right on the water and visible from the street, I'm sure it is what drew most diners in. If it's rainy... well... you're on your own.

As a previous reviewer so poignantly stated, if it were possible to give this establishment 0 stars, I would. First off, I am by no means picky when it comes to quality of food or quality of service. Having worked in restaurants the majority of my life, I can let things slide within reason. But this place just failed so hard in all aspects. I went there for an extended family dinner/reunion. There were around 36 of us, so we had what was supposed to be a private room upstairs. PSYCH. They also told another family that was coming in an hour later they could have it too, leaving us short a couple of chairs. Once we solved that issue, it was time to eat. The food was really lackluster to put it nicely, and there wasn't nearly enough to even feed 3/4 of us. It gets better: They wouldn't give us any more food. I would understand if we were eating filet mignon and fresh water salmon, but christ, it was poorly made pasta and vegetables with what was supposed to be some form of prime rib and some other creature they dragged out of the bay. The service was awful; the waiters rude; the food was made by Red Lobster chef rejects. Never again. They charged us $80 (after previously telling us it would only be $40) for a cake that could've been made by my 8 year old cousin. Along with a bunch of other ancillary fees they managed to sneak in there. Seriously. Spare yourself the endless disappointment that this restaurant dishes out. You'd have a more pleasurable experience eating pre-made sandwiches from a rest stop than this place.

We stopped in to this establishment for a drink and get take out. My friend is a local and has been going here since birth, so I knew we were going to get some good food. The menu is diverse, but the recommendation I got was for anything seafood. Duh, I'm in Maine. I got the sesame tuna and is was cooked perfectly. The food was done quickly and the portion was just right. The bartender Gigi is super attentive and made sure we had everything we wanted. Next time I'm in Boothbay Harbor I will definitely stop in for a drink and a bite.

I really have nothing bad to say about many of the things in Boothbay Harbor. While some of the things there are kind of a long hike hike up and down some steep hills to get to once you make the drive and pay for parking, I was thouroughly impressed with the accessibility all over, specifically at McSeagull's. I came here with some family on a tight-scheduled visit to Maine, and loved it. I am a wheelchair user, so getting from reasonable parking to the building was an adventure, but the restaurant itself is extremely accessible. The food and drinks are on point and the view of the harbor adds to the dining experience. The menu is appropriately priced and extensive. The staff was incredibly accommodating to my seating needs. I had stuffed mushrooms, a crab roll, and a blue fashioned. McSeagull's and Boothbay are great for a day trip to the coast to get that ocean fix. It filled up fast at the bar when we were there, but the atmosphere stayed quiet, and I was not overwhelmed by tourists ducking the summer heat.

McSeagulls is first of all the best names ever. Second of all they have a craft beer selection to die for... at prices that make this city girl very pleased. I could get two beers here for what I pay in Boston! Their menu is pretty extensive and I was surprised by all the variety. I wound up ordering the burger which was really good. Toasted bun! We ate on the deck which is closed in by plastic sides that shielded us from the crazy wind. The atmosphere is very relaxed and low key. Two thumbs up!

The name was somewhat troubling (sounds like some kind of gimmick), but we were hungry after walking around all day, and decided to give it a try. We were glad we did. The service was very nice, the food was excellent, and we would definitely return.

  • Mel K.

Just terrible. It started the season ok, it has become bad. We had a large party, the fried food was over cooked, the oil was old. I had a prime rib sandwich on a pannini, it was soggy and overcooked. My wife had a lousy meal. Everyone was disappointed. We met a couple the next night in the ice cream store nearby who had just left and were not happy either.

Best clam chowder ever! Overall, a great place to sit on a deck by the water and have lunch with one's family. Wife had a 100% kickass bloody mary and a hot lobster roll that put a smile on her face. I wasn't super hungry so I just had a salad, bur I regretted that as I saw some of the other seafood dishes going to tables around us. The mussels looked great and they have glidden point oysters from Damariscotta- one of my favorites. The only troubling thing is just where the heck the loon resurfaced. We never saw him come back up.

We spent a week in Boothbay and ate here twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. It was great. The waitstaff was friendly and helpful. Service was prompt, and the food was terrific. Everything was hot and prepared just right. Portions were appropriate, and the atmosphere was fine. It's a pub type experience, and they make no airs about being anything that they are not. It was quite enjoyable.

Great food, good service. Try the seafood stew. If this wasn't hundreds of miles away, I'd be there every night for that soup. And the scallops over goat cheese. Perfection. Super tender scallops over goat cheese with a red pepper aioli. WoW! Grilled vegetable salad was also very good and Hubby raved over the the Asian Salad. We will go back when we go back ti Boothbay Harbor.

Wow, this place was impressive! Ate on the outside covered deck, what a perfect spot. Went for lunch and did not expect much but I was pleasantly surprised. My wife ordered the Clam Chowder, one of the best I have ever had, and I have had some awesome chowder. First time I did not have lobster. Ordered the fish sandwich special-Thrasher Shark -blackened to perfection. First place I am going next time I am in Booth bay !!!

Always good. Been coming for years. Just got back from dinner. Amanda was our server. She gets 5 stars! Very pleasant and just fun. Had the Cobb salad...delicious. Other two had the seafood platter. Looked yummy. Thanks for a good time. You all do it right.

First of all the service was awful as if we were bothering the rude waiter we had. Drinks were also not good...how hard is it to chill a glass for a martini. The only good thing was the crab cakes.

If you like lobster, this place has it all...many different lobster preparations, including lobster pasta and grilled lobster with fennel butter. The chowder was a little too salty for my taste, but the lobster was outstanding.

This is our favorite place to eat in Boothbay Harbor. The deck is great in season. Our waiter tonight was friendly and very attentive. Food was delicious and the menu has some Mexican accents and is much more interesting than the typical Boothbay lobster, clams, steak and potatoes. Dessert was really good too. Both the restaurant and bar are probably the most popular in town.

  • Abby W.

I was really unimpressed with our lunch here. Bottom line, it's a little touristy or just not that great of food. I enjoy good, fresh food, including Maine lobster but the lobster roll left a lot to be desired (HUGE white roll, untoasted) and the other items including potato salad were too rich, but not in a good way. The clam chowder had bacon in it which is unfortunate since I don't like bacon but my friend who got it said it was one of the better items she ate. (Not sure if she was being nice because I was treating for lunch). The service was okay but not great, had to request water and they gave me second cup of it in a new plastic cup (not very friendly to the planet, why are we using plastic, let alone two cups for one person and a sit down restaurant)? Also they send out my lobster with scarily orange butter all over it the first time so had to send back to get plain as requested on the 2nd try. Not recommending or returning, felt sick to my stomach after eating there.

Stick to safe menu items and you should be OK here-- fried seafood platter was a good mix of different stuff-- don't bother spending money on lobster, since you can get better lobster cheaper at every other place around. the maine reason to come to McSeagulls is to get drunk. I ordered a makers and received a fucking pint glass of whiskey with half a scoop of ice. basically the drinks are "triples". not classy, but hell of effective. a small bar slings cheap strong drinks to a crowd that seems to all know each other, has live music, and has tons of tables to serve OK food to families of vacationaires.

  • John A.

Great place. Upstairs for quiet and a view of the harbor. Downstairs for the hubbub, the billiards, and live band every night in season. Heated deck over the water for fresh air. We had grilled lobster, awesome, and ahi tuna, awesome too. Best steamers we'd ever eaten, steamed in wine, onions, green peppers, and spices. Must have been raised on oatmeal, not a grain of sand to be found. Full bar. Not at all like the typical fried seafood and lobster pound you expect to find in Maine.

DO NOT TRUST ANYONE'S REVIEW THAT IS HIGHER THAN ONE STAR. SERIOUSLY. I tried and tried to give it a zero, but the system would not let me. I guess i should have known. Anyplace that their best item is the chicken bomb, AVOID.

We had a great lunch today! Outdoor seating overlooking the harbor. Staff was great and the hot lobster roll was amazing. The shrimp po boy sandwich was also amazing. I had a cup of some kind of lobster soup that was... Amazing. The hot lobster roll is why this is 5 stars. I would have given a 4 star for cramped outdoor seating on very cheap furniture. But I would stand to eat there again.

I had a few people tell me to hit McSeagulls when we went to Boothbay Harbor, so I may have had my sights set too high....I was VERY disappointed. McSeagulls menu is all over the place. Everything from fried seafood to pizza to burgers to BBQ to a Raw Bar to Mexican to Cajun and Greek food. Man, WAY too much stuff in my opinion. I had the fish & chips because the menu did not seem to have a focus, I thought I'd stick to the basics. The fish & chips were...ok. I've had way better. The fish was just flavorless and just sat there dripping in grease, plus they served a small Greek salad on the plate. Huh? It was ok too, but why a Greek salad? My wife had the Blackened Salmon on Creamed Corn...Im not kidding, she intentionally ordered that. She regretted it the moment it showed up on the table. Nasty. It also came with the same side Greek salad. Very odd. The worst part was our appetizer. We ordered the Garlic & Artichoke Heart Dip. I SWEAR TO GOD it was tuna fish salad on a plate. WTF? I'm giving two stars because the waitstaff was very nice and kept the beer coming. I ended up just drinking a ton to make up for the crappy food. Also the bar looked ok, but we didn't hang around to find out. There are better places in Boothbay you can go to.

Three stars for the luck of seeing Stream Reggae and the salad on the side of the appetizers. Other than that calamari was chewy and the crab cakes were awful

Excellent seafood! I had the crab stuffed lobster tail and tried the calamari. Very delicious. The Fuggles IPA tasted more like a lager than an IPA, but was still good. Good service as well.

  • K M.

Although this is not the best place I have ever eaten at, it is no where close to the worst - I think that, based upon the other reviews - may be based upon just which crew you get and what the crowd is like. The first time we went to McSeagulls, was on a night that was raining cats and dogs and we just wanted someplace that had good seafood and wasn't totally packed. We were offered the upstairs room and, as it turned out, we had the room to ourselves, after the other couple in the room left right after we ordered (hope it wasn't us :-). Each of the four of us got a dinner entree and all but one got something with lobster. I would say that the food was five stars (I gave the place four stars taking into account other factors, like services and the rooms). My Gnocchi with Lobster in a light cream sauce was great and it came with tons (and tons) of lobster that was perfectly done and not anywhere close to over cooked. Although it was a fairly rich meal, given that it was a rather cold night because of the rain, it was perfect. The other incredible meal at the table was lobster with white beans that my friend ordered - I had a small taste and although when he ordered it, I couldn't imagine how it would work together, the lobster paired perfectly with the beans in a rather spicy light sauce. Both of our wives ordered halibut stuff with either crab or lobster and they enjoyed their meals as well. As I said, that was the first time, as we went again, but this time with the kids. We had to wait a 1/2 hour that night even though it was nearly 9 pm, but that's to be expected during the summer season in Maine. Once we got a seat, it was at a long table right next to the bar - not exactly where I would place a family with children (why, although the food was worth 5 stars, I'm only giving 4). Because this night it was getting pretty warm outside and inside (with all the folks at the bar), I had a floor fan blowing on my back the entire time that was attempting to cool the whole room - a bit of a pain, but definitely preferred over sweltering in the heat. This night I got the fried haddock sandwich that was terrific. Even though my youngest was falling asleep, her chicken fingered were so good, she ate them all (which is not usual for her). Another one of the girls got Fish-n-chips and said it was great. Everyone was very happy with the food and the overall costs was very reasonable. So, in sum, I would go back to McSeagulls - the menu had the best variety I saw of all the restaurants in Boothbay Harbor - but I probably will try other places first.

Go here. Not many places to go to in Boothbay Harbor in late autumn/winter, so you have limited options, and yet still the food is fantastic, great music both day and night, friendly staff, and hot chix. The place is almost always jumping, and for good reason. Plus, Pier One Pizza is kitty-corner with a pool table. Go here.

    (5)
  • John W.

Good-sized menu with something for everyone. Portion sizes are perfect and it's right on the harbor. The servers were very friendly/knowledgeable of all the items on the menu, and the clam chowder is... to die for! -- My wife isn't a big seafood fan, yet she wouldn't stop eating my bowl! -- It's not the cheapest, but it's worth every dollar for the quality and the amount of food that you get. If you try 1 restaurant while in town - try McSeagulls. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

  • Matthew S.

It's a bit better than what we expected. Decore and clientele, touristy as expected. Food, prepared well. One of the better lobsters I've had actually. And as others have stated, the portions are great. Service was personable and very diligent.

  • Mike L.

Went here for lunch and sat on the deck overlooking Boothbay. Very clean and bright, view was excellent. Service was ok. Menu was huge! and a little touristy (duh). Double bacon wrapped scallops were excellent, then again you could wrap a dog-turd in bacon and I would eat it and be happy! I had the lobster club (see the bacon trend?). Good sandwich and fries. My friend had the pulled pork sandwich and seemed very pleased. I would recommend McSeagulls with four stars but the prices were a little too high. I realize this can be expected in a tourist town on the coast of Maine, but $95 for a lunch for two seems a little too steep.

My family recently vacationed in Boothbay Harbor and visited this restaurant. We've stayed in the area previous years, and those who have visited McSeagull's on past vacations will notice that they've renovated significantly, adding on a whole second floor! We sat inside on the second floor, which was good, but if you can I'd recommend outside for better views. They also seem to have expanded their menu. We are vegetarians, so unfortunately I can't speak to the quality of a significant portion of their menu. However, they had decent (though not fabulous) vegetarian entrees: we tried Pasta Primavera (in a red sauce with lots of veggies), create your own pizza (tons of topping choices, even ignoring meaty stuff), and some kind of veggie wrap. The pasta dish was a bit overwhelming, too much pasta relative to the amount of veggies, but overall we left feeling satisfied. They were good about accommodating special requests: our waitress remembers which dishes we ordered without cheese and all the toppings for our custom pizza correctly without having to write them down at the table. The food arrived in a timely fashion and we didn't feel rushed even though they were fairly busy.

  • Edwin O.

We ate here twice this past week, and both times we were satisfied. We sat on the outdoor deck both times, after being willing to wait for half an hour or so for a seat during dinner service. It has a nice view of the harbor. Service was good. The boiled lobster was great, the chowder superb, my daughter's pizza was swell, and the lobster roll adequate. The price was big city seafood dining prices, but overall I was happy with my dining experiences on both occasions.

  • Janice T.

Why is everyone hating on McSeagull's? The food wasn't that bad! How could you not like a place that serves calamari cooked just right? It was fresh and tender, and they even serve it with three different sauces to dip it in (wasabi, chipotle aioli, honey mustard) as well as a side of greens just so that you won't feel so bad about eating a pile of fried squid dipped in a various mayonnaise-based sauces. How could you not like beers on tap like Shipyard, Greary's, Dogfish Head, and Sea Dog for a mere $4 bucks a pint? No, I did not have the lobster so I can't really tell you what I think of how they make it. But, I did enjoy the food and the atmosphere.

We came here after a comedy show at the Boothbay Opera House(which was hysterical) only because every other restaurant was closed down at 9:53 pm on a Friday night! We where rushed and told we had 3 minutes to get our order into the kitchen. I think the waitress was being helpful since because she didnt want the kitchen to close on us but we just didnt have enough time to review the menu. Lobster bisque was actually pretty decent. I also had the fried haddock reuben. It was definately different but good. The fries were just okay. The boyfriend enjoyed his burger but the potato salad was gross. It was from out of container not homemade that is for sure! The 2 others with us had a lobster roll (19.00 which after paying 20.00 for 3 lobsters the previous 3 days we thought was high) which he enjoyed. It came with sweet potato waffle fries. And a cobb salad which i did not try but looked okay. The waitress brought the wrong dressing. Funny though the whole comedy show party was eating lobster in there right at the table next to us! I probably would only come back here for drinks or if it was late and everything else was closed. Also my rueben was 14.00! For my soup, sandwich and one domestic beer with tip my bill was 34.00!

Good location in the "bar-muda triangle" on the pier. Good view, especially on the deck or from the second floor. Huge menu, everything I've had there was good, the salads were big and had lots of veggies, the nachos were decent, steak was cooked the way I asked, the fish and chips were maybe a tiny bit over priced but still good, etc. Gets loud at night, usually live local bands, good drinks at the bar, always a few people dancing :)

    (4)
  • Ryan M.

Great restuaunt on the pier. I had the Lobster and Chicken Bomb which was fantastic. (Flash fried chicken breast stuffed with brie and lobster) They have a huge menu (8 pages) that touches on every type of food you can think of. They have a great tap selection at the bar inside. Sometimes when you are eating on the deck on the weekend you are right next to a dock that usually holds a multi-million dollar yacht or two.
